Welcome to the
SMHS Attendance Office
760-290-2200 X 2211/2223
State Law requires pupils to attend their assigned classes every day school is in session. Any student missing more than 30 days for any one class in a semester, will not receive credit for that class. Per school board policy all absences must be cleared through the attendance office within 72 hours of the student's return to school. Passes for personal reasons will not be issued during lunch periods. Parent requests for early dismissal or late arrival due to medical or dental appointments will be permitted. Parents/Guardians are requested to call the attendance office at least 1 hour in advance to make arrangements for their student to obtain an Off Campus Pass. The student must obtain an Off Campus Pass from the Attendance Office and must be signed out by a parent (or designee) prior to leaving campus. Failure to do so will result in a Saturday School.
Excused Absence/Tardy: (Make up work allowed)
Personal illness or quarantine
Illness or death in the immediate family
Medical and dental appointments
Upon written request of the parent or guardian and approval of the Principal or his/her designee and pursuant to board policy, a student's personal justifiable absence may be excused. Reason include, but are not limited to:
Appearance in court.
Observation of a holiday or ceremony of his/her religion.
Employment interview or conference.
Attendance at funeral services (for other than the immediate family)
Consequences:
Students with unexcused absences will be referred to an Assistant Principal for intervention and attendance make-up through Saturday School. Excessive unexcused absences and/or truancies will result in referral to the School Attendance Review Board (SARB).
