This morning in the Union Tribune it was officially announced that SEES was one of 12 schools to receive a $10,000 garden grant from Seeds of Change.  Our school was one of many thousand applicants from across the nation for this amazing opportunity.  Many of you supported this grant by voting this past November.

The focus of this grant is to grow our garden program by providing experiences to our students with a Seed to Table program.  The district's wellness policy and child nutrition services has done an outstanding job of promoting this education.  The garden commitee is excited to make this connection moving forward with nutrition education.

Our Garden Committee lead by Sonja Brion and Allison Frost has been an active part of our school for the past few years.  This committee of parents and teachers has collaborated from the very beginning in designing and maintaining our Eagle's Outlook.  This includes actively pursuing donations along with district support to maintain a growing garden.  The garden committe meets regularly and continuously supports our students by discussing lessons designed around state standards in addition to providing opportunites for our students experience all the magical events that can occur in a garden from growing vegetables to attracting butterflies.

As you know our garden is a very special place here at SEES.  This year our science lab has been working out of our garden area so every student visits our garden twice a month with their class.

Stay tune for more information on the details of our next steps in moving forward with this grant and how you can be actively involved in growing our garden.

I know that this amazing gift will provide many new opportunities for our school community.
